Bruíon Bheag na hAlúine

Fleá a bhí ag Fionn, tráth, in Alúin, agus Clanna Mórna agus Clanna Smóil, agus mic Rí Laighean, agus mic Rí Alban, agus dronga diandásachtacha de mhic rí agus ró-uaisle an domhain i láthair.

A feast Fionn had, once, in Alúin, and the Clan of Mórna and the Clan of Smól, and the sons of the King of Leinster, and the sons of the King of Scotland, and the frenzied throng of the sons of kings and nobles of the world present.

D’éirigh Fearghas Finnbhéil agus ghabh duana agus dréachta agus dea-dhána a shean agus a shinsir. Fuair sé luach saothair ó na daoine móra uilig thart go dtáinig sé chomh fada le Goll mac Mórna. Chuir Goll fios ar a eachlach féin agus nuair a tháinig sí dúirt sé léi an cíos láimhe a bhí aige féin ar Lochlannacha a thabhairt i láthair. Rinneadh sin agus thug Goll luach saothair mór d’Fhearghas agus do na filí uilig a bhí i láthair.

Fearghas Finnbhéil arose and he gave the poems and compositions and fine oral arts of his elders and of his ancestors. He received a reward for his work from all the great people around until he came as far as Goll mac Mórna. Goll called upon his own attendant and when she came he said to her to bring out the tribute he himself had from the Vikings. That was done and Goll gave a large reward to Fearghas and to all the poets that were present.

Tháinig éad ar Fhionn agus d’fhiafraigh sé de Gholl cén chaoi a dtarla cíos láimhe aigesean ar Lochlannacha agus go rabhadar faoi chíos ag Fionn féin. Mhínigh Goll an scéal agus san insint rinne sé tagairt don chaoi ar mharaigh sé féin athair Fhinn. Ba leor sin, agus níorbh fhada go raibh sé ina raic idir chlann Mhórna agus chlann Bhaíscne.

Fionn became jealous and he asked Goll how it happened that he himself had tribute from the Vikings since they were under tribute to Fionn himself. Goll explained the story and in the retelling he made reference to the way that he himself killed Fionn’s father. That was enough, and it wasn’t long until there was a riot between Clan Mórna and Clan Bhaíscne.

Bhí troid mhillteach ann ar feadh tamaill ach d’éirigh le Fearghas Finnbhéil síocháin a tharraingt eadarthu sa deireadh. Tamall ina dhiaidh sin chuaigh an dá dhream go Teamhair go ndearna an scéal a bhreithniú ansin i gcúirt Chormaic, agus rinneadh síocháin eadarthu.

There was a destructive fight for a while but Fearghas Finnbhéil succeeded to make peace between them in the end. A while after that, the two groups went to Teamhair that the story might be judged there in the court of Cormac, and peace was made between them.
